At this point, my take is;

1) We should've given Moyes more of a chance. The stats speak for themselves, he got decent results with an abysmal squad that overperformed the season before with Sir Alex at the helm.

2) Diego Simeone.
3) The Spurs guy.
4) Chris Coleman.
4½) Zidane?
5) Solskjær, Giggs or some other club man. I'm not entirely sure where I am on these guys, but at this point, I'd rather see some of these guys get a shot, than Conte, Hiddink or whoever else we can dig up "Who has a proven pedigree".

Diego Simone? He is the only manager in the top clubs that are more defensive in his thoughts than Mourinho.

I am very happy to see Ole as our manager, even though I know it's most probably just until May.

He is a guy who knows the club through and through, breathes United and it seems that he really cares. That, for me, is already a great start. Of course, we must see whether he is capable to lead a dressing room full of spoiled young millionaires and, most of all, whether he will have freedom to act as he thinks is the best.

It is good that the club decided to pay attention to their roots and go back to persons like Solskjaer and Phelan, but I hope they will not commit a crucial error and go back too much. By saying this, I hope Ole will not be forced by someone above (be it the Board, Fergie, Bobby Charlton or anyone else) to play homegrown players like Lingard, McTominay or Rashford at all costs, or the players brought in by SAF, like Smalling, Young or Jones.

From all those players, I think only Rashford has the quality to be in our starting 11, but he must also prove a lot and grow a lot. Of course he is a huge talent, still very young with great potential, but anyway he is a bit overrated imo, mostly by the English media and by the ex-United players. He should be playing, but not at all costs and not always. Hope that Solskjaer will have a good influence on him, especially as he knows him well from the time he was our reserve team coach.

Lingard, imo, does not have the quality for the first team and should be either used as a bench player or sold next Summer, if a good offer arrives. We simply must set our standards higher, or we will put ourselves in a position where quality-wise we will be somewhere between 4th and 7th place on the table.

McTominay should be given some chances, especially in Cup games against lesser opponents, or maybe we should send him on loan, as he has potential, but currently is not at a level high enough to compete for our 1st team.

Whoever becomes our next permanent manager, the best indicator whether he understood some of our main problems will be how he acts on the market, especially by selling many current players.

Imo, we must finally get rid of at least 7-8 players and be wise when buying new ones, in order to even start re-building. We are 6-7 years late in the real and proper re-building and until now it was hot and cold when it comes to buying and selling players. Especially in the last 3-4 years we haven't moved well in the market, so hopefully we will start doing that sooner rather than later.

I think that we must finally bring a capable director of football, as this is another thing overdue since many seasons, practically since Fergie and Gill left the club.

Anyway, I wish all the best to Ole and hope he will do great.

I think it's a good loan move(yes, seems that it's a manager loan move!). Why?

*Gives the club time to woo Pochettino.
*If not possible, identify the next best target and get him.
*If someone great becomes available, give him the job right there and then, I'm sure there's some clause in Ole's contract for that.
*If Ole does really well, then it's also a great option going forward.

Basically it feels like its the option that leaves the club in a strong position - the manager knows that the club is looking for a new manager. With Jose that would've been a problem. They can be much more open about the manager pursuit to the agents of the few managers we should be looking at.

All in all I'm happy. And looking at Molde's stats, Ole wants his team to play attacking football, which means the games might not be substituted for sleeping pills any more.

But in general I think GNev on sky was totally right - the main problem lies above the manager. The structure that is set is just not good enough. Jose has won leagues everywhere and was nowhere near winning one at United. He isn't a bad manager, he just wasn't handled right. Jose wasn't blameless either of course, but I think it's a big job to make sure that United would work well football-wise behind the scenes. If that doesn't get sorted, then we need a miracle to top City.

So?

Ferguson always had a strong back line as well. Nothing wrong with having an eye on the defensive side of the ball. Simeone knows you get nowhere just parking the bus and playing kick and rush. I see him more as a defensive version of Jurgen Klopp, who (since SAF retired) is my favourite top manager.

Ole is incredible!

He has been at United just one day and he's already won the same amount of trophies as Klopp at Liverpool and Pocchetino at Tottenham :)

And it just took him 90 minutes to see United score 5 league goals in a match. None have done that since Fergie.

And really good performances today as well. Some of the attacking combinations were just top class. Martial's goal especially. That was a beauty.

Good start for Ole. Great to see the team attack when we're leading. That hasn't happened since Fergie either.

It's only Cardiff, but the tone is set. I'm already waiting for the next match.

It can be easily seen that the players have more freedom and they're more relaxed. They also seem very unite and happy as a group.
I was pleased to see Lindelof take the ball forward, midfielders and attackers combining nicely and quickly, with flair. Some runs and passes were like a fresh breeze for everyone of us who got used to slow and boring football.
Hope we will see the same attitude also against stronger opposition.

Great start for Ole. I'd be very happy if he were our next permanent manager, but I know it will be difficult.
In only a few days, there is a common feeling of United spirit back among the team and the fans.
Hope it will last.

The players always want to show it wasn't their fault after a manager gets sacked. This result is meaningless.

Ole is a national hero in Norway. He know football, and he has learned a lot since Cardiff. He has a offensive style but need good players, and he need players to belive in him. In United there are money to buy these players. And he is a good person who cares about the players as a person.

He took over Molde a good Norweigan club but they had never won the league. Ole GOT the money, and got the players who could play his style. And on the 100 year of the club he won theire first leaguetitle. In three years he won 2 league titler and one cuptitles. He destroyed Rosenborgs winningrun.

He went to Cardiff, we all know how that ended. But Cardiff wasn`t his stage. After a fem year training youths in his hometown, he came back to Molde and his prosjekt was really developing, and this year he came second after Rosenborg.

I think that Ole can be the man for United, His skilles are undoubtley there, but can he handle the star players when the team troubles.

I think that his abilitys to make personal connection and care about the players will help him and maybe make him great.

I agree that we can't take too much from that game. It was just Cardiff and it's the first game under a new management. Yet, the signs are there that the team wants to play more positively, so at least it seems like we'll see glorious failure if things turn bad instead of watching paint dry.

The result doesn't mean we're good all of a sudden, but it means that Ole has the right direction. I can't remember seeing that with Jose or LVG. To an extent we had it with Moyes, but that was different, because everyone had just won the title and still remembered how Fergie wanted them to play.

Just the fact that we were still attacking after leading by two or more goals shows the right attitude.

With Mourinho, even against teams from the bottom of the table, we retreated immediately after leading by one goal. I don't know whether it was unconscious or not, but still it showed the mentality under Jose' and maybe even his instructions to the players.

Now it feels like they can express themselves and enjoy football. That is very important, especially for the creative players like Pogba or Martial, but also for the whole group. You cannot give these players too many restrictions, they need some freedom on the pitch. Of course, always with discipline in defensive duties, but I think that goes without saying. Cardiff, for example, didn't create a chance. Seems that Mourinho somehow didn't understand that attacking is the best way of defending.

OK, it was just Cardiff, we should not get carried away, but against that same team, with Mourinho we would most probably have had another game of suffering and who knows whether we would take 3 points.

Seems that we will finally bring a sports director and the name mentioned lately is Salford (Manchester) born Paul Mitchell, head of football at RB Leipzig, ex Southampton and Tottenham, very close to Pocchetino.

I still cannot understand why haven't we done that much earlier and how come such a complex job was in the hands of Ed Woodward all these years.

Yeah i agree that the most important thing was that we continued playing after we scored. So much more for us and the players and feels like the right thing to do in most games. I can understand being more conservative against the top teams when leading but against non top six clubs you have to just believe that you will score more and continue playing the normal way.

I don't know why it wasn't done right after Fergie and Gill left but I've read that Mourinho didn't want a football director and the club respected that. Now with Mourinho fired we're finally getting one.

Another joyful football match. So many aspects of football played the United way that Jose got wrong have been righted:
*When 0-0, we try to attack and take risks on the ball.
*When 1-0 or 2-1, we try to attack and play our normal football
*When in a big lead, we try to give the younger players a chance

It's just incredible how different this team looks. It's only been Huddersfield and Cardiff, but even against those sides Jose managed to make the team defensive. I hope Ole keeps the same approach in the coming games as well. Including the Spurs game.

8 goals in two matches is a good start, indeed :)

With Mourinho, when in the lead, the substitution would be practically the same as the one when we need to chase the result, but with a different purpose. Of course, it would be => put Fellaini on (that's more/less where José arrived with his "creativity")
